TAKASHINGA 2 produced several encouraging individual performances despite slipping to an eight-wicket defeat against Queens Sports Club in their National Premier League clash at Kwekwe Sports Club on Sunday. After choosing to bat first, Takashinga found themselves under severe pressure early as Queens’ pace attack reduced them to 43 for five inside 15 overs. Mgcini Dube led the damage with a spell of three for 18 from eight economical overs, while Sheanopa Musekwa and Brandon James claimed two wickets apiece. The early collapse left Chimwe Chimushini staring at a modest total, but the middle order responded with admirable determination. Daichi Nyandoro anchored the recovery with a composed half century, striking 50 from 69 deliveries with five fours and two sixes. The all-rounder showed patience when required before accelerating, ensuring his side regained some momentum after a difficult opening period. Nyandoro found an able partner in wicketkeeper Tinashe Nenhunzi, who continued his impressive run of form with an attractive 38 from 37 balls that included five boundaries. The pair combined for a vital 73-run sixth wicket partnership, rebuilding the innings after the top order had been dismantled. Captain Baxon Gopito battled for 19 from 31 deliveries while Leeroy Chiwaula added a brisk 19, but regular breakthroughs prevented Takashinga from building the substantial partnerships needed for a bigger total. Late contributions from Wishnenzy Chapfombo, who made 16, and Shelton Mazvitorera’s 12 lifted the visitors to a respectable 163 before they were dismissed in 38.2 overs. Defending the modest target, Takashinga’s bowlers began brightly. Mazvitorera struck first with an excellent spell that yielded one for 17 from seven overs, removing Rowyn Konson after restricting the scoring rate. Chataira then dismissed Dean John as Queens slipped to 33 for two, briefly giving Takashinga 2 hope of forcing their way back into the contest. However, opener Nkosana Mpofu produced an innings of real authority, carrying his bat for an unbeaten 91 from 108 deliveries, decorated with eight fours and a six. He was well supported by wicketkeeper Munashe Chimusoro, whose unbeaten 60 from 84 balls featured five boundaries as the pair shared an unbroken third wicket stand of 134. Although the result went against Takashinga 2, there were several positives to take forward. Nyandoro demonstrated his ability to anchor an innings under pressure, Nenhunzi continued to show consistency in the middle order, while Mazvitorera once again impressed with the ball by maintaining tight control against a strong batting line up.
