SPINNER Ryan Simbi took four wickets for 25 runs, but Takashinga 1 lost to Eastern Titans by four wickets in the NPL T20 Blast at Takashinga Cricket Club on Friday afternoon.
Eastern Titans won the toss and asked Takashinga 1 to bat. The side was reduced to five for the loss of two wickets in the second over, when Mashford Shungu removed Tinashe Kamunhukamwe and Gerald Olipa in successive balls.
Captain Roy Kaia and Kudzai Maunze steadied the innings with 22 and 25 respectively. Alvin Chiradza added 18 and Shelton Mazvitorera hit two sixes in his 14. Takashinga 1 were eventually bowled out for 117 in 18.2 overs, with Eastern Titans captain Definate Mawadzi taking four for 21.
Defending 118, Takashinga 1's bowlers made a strong start. Simbi struck in the first over, trapping Takudzwa Nyamugure leg before wicket. In the third over he took two more, bowling Nigel Bonyongwe and trapping Mawadzi leg before first ball, leaving Eastern Titans on 10/3.
Tapiwa Mufudza then bowled Rwanda's Oscar Manishimwe for 14 and Kaia had Panashe Gwatiringa caught by Maunze, as Eastern Titans slipped to 80/5 at the end of the 10th over.
Spencer Magodo's 78 off 34 balls proved decisive. Simbi eventually had him caught by Maunze for his fourth wicket, but Prosper Mugeri hit the winning runs in the 13th over.
Simbi finished with 4/25 from his four overs, and Maunze took two catches.
The result leaves Takashinga 1 on two points from two matches, after their 20-run win over Mbizo at Harare Sports Club on Thursday.
