TAKASHINGA Patriots 1 dismantled Alex Cricket Club by nine wickets in a one-sided Vigne Cup encounter at Takashinga Cricket Club in Highfields on Saturday.
The home side needed just 20.4 overs with the ball and 8.3 overs with the bat to complete the job after winning the toss and electing to field first.
Seamer Munashe Chipara led the destruction with a deadly 5.4-over spell, claiming 5/19. He ripped through Alex’s top and lower order with pace, precision and immaculate line and length. Chipara removed opener Hassan Shamas for 17 off 25, caught by Kundai Matigimu, trapped Takudzwanashe Kaitano LBW for 2, had Nazim Patel caught behind by Spencer Magodo for a duck, accounted for Mashford Shungu for 6, and wrapped up his five-wicket haul by uprooting tailender Fortune Mhlanga’s stumps.
The inroads were opened by seasoned campaigner Tanaka Chivanga, who struck with his very first ball to remove Alex captain Ahsan Aqil Ali for a golden duck, caught by Tafadzwa Mahachi. Chivanga struck again with the last ball of his second over, dismissing Tony Munyonga, caught by the busy Magodo. He finished with 2/22 from five overs.
Spinner Tapiwa Mufudza added 2/10 from five overs, accounting for Hamza Shamaz for 3 and Tariro Makauyo for 4. Matigimu completed the wicket-takers’ list with 1/10, removing Villan Changa for 10 as Alex were bundled out for 62.
Takashinga 1 wrapped up the chase in a hurry, reaching 63/1 in 8.3 overs. Mahachi made 13 off 10 before becoming the only casualty. Tatenda Banda and Spencer Magodo saw the team home unbeaten on 15 and 12 respectively.
