TAKASHINGA Patriots 1 have wrapped up a dominant National Premier League (NPL) Men’s Super 40 campaign by securing the title with two matches still to play after an emphatic nine wicket victory over Eastern Titans at Takashinga Cricket Club on Saturday. The champions made it 11 wins from 11 matches, underlining their complete dominance of the competition and establishing an unassailable lead at the summit. Eastern Titans never recovered after being sent in to bat, struggling to build partnerships as Takashinga’s bowling attack kept the pressure on from the outset. Opener Takudzwa Nyamugure was the only batter to offer meaningful resistance, making 25 from 58 deliveries. His innings eventually ended when off spinner Tapiwa Mufudza broke through, completing an impressive spell of four for 16 from six overs as Titans were dismissed for a modest 55. Takashinga needed little time to finish the contest. Tafadzwa Tsiga immediately put the Titans attack under pressure, smashing six and five fours in a blistering 28 from just 12 balls. Remarkably, he had scored all of Takashinga’s runs before his dismissal. With only 28 still required, Innocent Kaia calmly guided the chase with an unbeaten 16, while Brendan Taylor finished on five not out as the home side reached 56 for one in only 6.2 overs.
