TAKASHINGA Patriots 1 served notice of its title credentials once again, dismantling Queens Sports Club by a resounding 95 runs in their opening National Premier League clash away at Kwekwe Sports Club on Sunday.
Put in to field by Queens, Takashinga's batting unit responded in ruthless fashion. Skipper Roy Kaia led from the front with a composed, unbeaten 62, a captain's innings built on timing and temperament rather than risk. Club stalwart Brendan Taylor complemented him beautifully with a fluent 58, and the innings was capped off in style by Tafadzwa Tsiga, whose explosive 35 off just 27 balls, laced with three towering sixes, took the total to a formidable 217/6 in their 45 overs.
It was a innings that showcased exactly the kind of depth and firepower Takashinga has built this season, with useful runs also coming from Antum Naqvi and Joylord Gumbie further down the order.
With the ball, the Highfield side's bowling attack proved just as clinical. Tapiwa Mufudza set the tone with three wickets, while Munashe Chipara and Hashim Ibrahim took two wickets each to help bowl Queens out for just 122, a total that never threatened to trouble Takashinga's imposing first-innings score.
