TAKASHINGA 2 produced a composed run chase to beat Old Hararians by three wickets in a Harare Metropolitan Cricket Association First League encounter played at Takashinga Cricket Club on Sunday. After restricting Old Hararians to 211 all out in 48.1 overs, the hosts reached 212 for seven in 37.1 overs, thanks to an aggressive half-century from wicketkeeper-batter Ryan Kamwemba and a crucial late flourish from Tatenda Chimugoro. Old Hararians made a steady start after being asked to bat, with Saad Khan contributing 17 before captain Daichi Nyandoro struck early breakthroughs. The Takashinga skipper removed Khan, Felix Kadange (18) and Muhammad Zaheer Tufail (seven) to leave the visitors wobbling. The innings was rebuilt by Huzefa Syed, who played the standout knock of the day for Old Hararians. Syed hammered 61 from 64 deliveries, striking two fours and four sixes, while Never Lundu chipped in with a patient 38 from 65 balls. Admire Manyumwa contributed 29 while Cephas Zhuwao added 23 as Old Hararians attempted to push towards a competitive total. However, Takashinga’s bowlers kept striking at key moments. Carlton Takawira delivered a superb spell of four for 28 from 8.1 overs, while Nyandoro claimed three for 29. Tanyaradzwa Kagumba took one for 30 and Arineshto Vhezha finished with two for 32 as Old Hararians were dismissed for 211. In reply, Takashinga 2 lost Leeroy Chiwaula without scoring, but Kamwemba and Simbarashe Mudzengerere transformed the innings with a brilliant partnership. Kamwemba dominated the attack with 65 from 62 balls, striking 10 boundaries, while Mudzengerere added 39 from 48 deliveries. After the pair departed, Tinashe Nenhunzi kept the momentum going with 39 off 42 balls before Chimugoro produced the decisive contribution. The right-hander blasted 41 from just 33 deliveries, including five fours and a six, swinging the contest in Takashinga’s favour. Although Old Hararians claimed wickets through Manyumwa, three for 46 and Zhuwao three for 43, Takashinga remained in control. Captain Nyandoro remained unbeaten on 18, alongside Takudzwa Chataira one run, as Takashinga sealed victory with nearly 13 overs to spare.
