TAKASHINGA Patriots 1 continued their fine run of form in the National Premier League with a commanding eight-wicket victory over Triangle at Masvingo Sports Club on Wednesday, powered by classy half-centuries from club stalwart Brendan Taylor and the ever-consistent Joylord Gumbie.
Set 197 for victory, the Patriots made the chase look routine, cantering home with more than 12 overs unused, a performance that once again showcased the depth of batting talent running through the Takashinga ranks.
Gumbie set the tone with a fluent 61 off just 55 balls, combining timing with intent to keep the required rate firmly under control. He was well supported by Taylor. The former national captain finished unbeaten on 75 from only 49 deliveries, a knock built on effortless timing and vintage placement that reminded everyone why he remains one of the country's most watched batters.
Antum Naqvi rounded things off in style, striking an unbeaten 38 to see the Patriots home in style and add further evidence of the promising young talent coming through the club's structures.
Earlier, Triangle had rallied from a difficult start of 21 for three, Kundai Matigimu removing two batters with successive deliveries, to post a competitive 196 all out, built on contributions from Blessed Muzite (55) and Tinofara Mafusire (53). But it was never going to be enough against a Patriots side brimming with confidence and firepower.
With bat and ball both firing, Takashinga Patriots 1 continue to show why they remain one of the sides to watch this season, a fitting reflection of the club's proud tradition of nurturing and showcasing top-class cricketing talent.
