TATENDA Chimugoro produced an unbeaten half century after a devastating bowling spell from Daichi Nyandoro as Takashinga 2 beat Rainbow Cricket Club by five wickets in their HMCA First League encounter at Takashinga Cricket Club on Sunday. Takashinga 2 chased down 189 with relative ease, reaching 192 for five in 34.5 overs after earlier bowling Rainbow out for 188 in 49.2 overs. The match belonged to Chimugoro, whose explosive unbeaten 82 from just 47 balls turned the contest firmly in Takashinga 2’s favour after a steady start to the chase. Rainbow, who elected to bat first, struggled badly against disciplined new ball bowling from Nyandoro. The seamer ripped through the top order to leave the visitors in deep trouble at 14 for four inside eight overs. Nyandoro removed Munyaradzi Chingoruma for five, Donnex Kansonkho for three, Larvet Masunda for a duck and Dylan Nzvenga for three in an outstanding opening spell. He later added the wicket of Robertson Chinyengetere to finish with excellent figures of five for 24 in 10 overs. Rainbow’s innings was rescued by Kudakwashe Munyede and Tinofara Mafusire, who shared a valuable sixth wicket stand after the early collapse. Munyede anchored the recovery with a composed 57 from 86 balls, striking eight fours and a six, while Mafusire added 49 from 81 deliveries. Their partnership lifted Rainbow past 100 and briefly gave the innings stability before Takashinga 2 regained control in the closing stages. Captain Baxon Gopito cleaned up the lower order with four for 42, removing Mafusire, Daniel Jackiel, Dylan Hondo and John Masara as Rainbow were dismissed for 188. In reply, Takashinga 2 made a cautious start and lost Tanunurwa Makoni LBW to Jackson Makalichi for a duck in the second over. Ryan Kamwemba and Tinashe Nenhunzi then rebuilt patiently, adding a steady partnership that settled the innings after the early setback. Kamwemba made 27 before falling to John Masara, while Nenhunzi held the innings together with a patient 55 from 80 balls, an innings that included six boundaries. Takashinga 2 were still balancing caution with risk at 63 for three when Chimugoro walked to the crease, but the all rounder immediately shifted momentum with aggressive strokeplay. He attacked the bowlers from the outset, smashing eight fours and four sixes in a match winning innings played at a strike rate of over 174. Together with Nenhunzi, Chimugoro added a quickfire 52 run partnership that broke the back of the chase. Even after Nenhunzi was run out for 55, Chimugoro continued to dominate the attack. Panashe Gwatiringa chipped in with 13 before Chimugoro guided Takashinga 2 home alongside Gopito, who remained unbeaten on three.
