Kolkata Knight Riders have moved fast, and gone tall by snapping up Takashinga and Zimbabwe speedster Blessing Muzarabani as their replacement for Mustafizur Rahman, with the IPL looming and KKR keen to cash in on the bowler who lit up the T20 World Cup.
Muzarabani, 29, earned rave reviews during Zimbabwe’s standout run at the World Cup, finishing with 13 wickets in six matches, just one short of the tournament’s leading wicket-takers including a brutal four-wicket burst against Australia that helped flip the script of the competition.
KKR’s signing comes after they were instructed to release Bangladesh left-armer Mustafizur despite buying him at the 2026 auction for INR 9.2 crore. Muzarabani now steps into that vacancy, giving KKR a very different weapon: steep bounce, heavy lengths, and the sort of awkward hit-the-deck pace that makes batters miscue even when they think they’re in control.
There’s another twist: Muzarabani has pulled out of the Pakistan Super League to take up the IPL opportunity, informing Islamabad United of his decision after securing the KKR deal. With the PSL and IPL overlapping again this year, it’s the latest example of the IPL’s pull, and it could yet come with consequences depending on how the PSL responds.
For KKR, though, it’s simple. The IPL starts on March 28, and they’ve secured a bowler in peak rhythm, fresh from making high-class batters look uncomfortable under global pressure.
For Zimbabwe, it’s another headline moment in a tournament that has elevated their players’ market value, and for Muzarabani, it’s the biggest stage in franchise cricket calling at exactly the right time.
