TAKASHINGA Cricket Club has stepped off the pitch and into Highfields, embarking on a noble cause to give back to the community it calls home. On Saturday, Zimbabwe’s largest Black-led cricket club delivered essential food parcels to Chinyaradzo Children’s Home and Chinyaradzo Old People’s Home.
The prominent Highfields-based cricket club spent the weekend spreading joy and relief, presenting generous donations to both the vulnerable members of the community.
The philanthropic delegation was led by Club Chairperson Blessing Ngondo, who was joined by senior club representatives Eric Chauluka, Mr Muchochoma, and Mr Mtandwa, affectionately known in sporting circles as "Ghanzi."
Together, the leadership team spent the day engaging with the children and the elderly, handing over provisions meant to ease the daily burden on the care facilities.
The Takashinga leadership also spent some time interacting with the residents, bridging the generational gap and ensuring that both the children and the senior citizens felt seen and valued.
The comprehensive donation packages included a vital array of staple foods and comforting treats.
Essential supplies, including bags of mealie meal, and flour, along with much-needed cooking oil, were offloaded to help secure and sustain the homes' food reserves. In addition to the staples, boxes of biscuits and an assortment of other goodies were distributed to the absolute delight of the residents.
For the children at Chinyaradzo, the sweet treats and the presence of local sporting figures provided a memorable weekend highlight.
Meanwhile, at the Highfields Old People’s Home, the elderly residents expressed deep gratitude for the essential supplies and the respect shown by the younger generation.
Handing over the assorted goods, Ngondo reaffirmed the club's deep-rooted commitment to uplifting the community that has long supported their sporting endeavours.
"Our responsibility as a club goes far beyond hitting boundaries and taking wickets on the cricket field," Ngondo said.
"It is equally about making a tangible difference in the lives of the most vulnerable members of our society."
