TAKASHINGA 1 maintained their winning momentum in the National Premier League 40 Overs competition with a clinical five-wicket win over Amakhosi Cricket Club at Kwekwe Sports Club on Wednesday. Electing to field first, Takashinga 1 put the squeeze on early and never let Amakhosi settle. Spinner, Wellington Masakadza set the tone with three wickets for 16 runs from eight overs, including two maidens, ripping through the top order. Munashe Chipara backed him up with two for 34, while captain Roy Kaia, Kundai Matigimu and Samuel Muyambo picked up a wicket apiece to bowl Amakhosi out for 148 in 33.3 overs. Tinotenda Maposa top-scored for the hosts with a brisk 46 off 41 balls, striking three fours and four sixes. Sean Phiri added 44 off 49, but once that partnership was broken, Amakhosi lost wickets in clusters. Takashinga’s chase was built around a measured half-century from Joylord Gumbie. The opener struck 56 off 68 balls with six fours, laying the foundation after Innocent Kaia had provided a quick start with 31 off 32, including six boundaries. Captain Roy Kaia chipped in with 24 as Takashinga cruised past the target. Raymond Kasimo was the pick of the Amakhosi bowlers with four for 32 from eight overs, but he lacked support as Alvin Chiradza, 12 not out, and Samuel Muyambo, five not out, saw Takashinga home at 154/5 in 31.1 overs. The result means Takashinga 1 continue their winning run in the NPL 40 Overs and underline their credentials as title contenders.
